Some people have asked me where I get my ideas from for my stories, so I’ll try to answer that here.
The first story, Angelicus, was written as a stand alone short piece and was inspired by a line of dialogue from the TV series Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009):
“Baltar: So who or what are you, exactly?”
“Cylon Model Six: I am an angel of God sent here to protect you. To guide you, to love you.”
I just adored that line and thought I could extend it into a story of an angel and his female lover. I didn’t intend to write any more after this one, but I received such positive feedback and encouragement from my friends and family that I decided to continue with the series.
Angelicus Redefined was actually inspired by the lyrics of the song Tell Me by Billie Myers (you can find a link to this on the music page). In the song, Billie sings “Oh, how does it feel, Making love to me like you do…” and a little later she says “So how does it feel, Making love to me if I were you, So how does it feel, Making love to me like you do” and I just thought that would make a great story; to tell the act of love from both viewpoints at the same time!
If you’re interested, you can find the full lyrics to this great song here
Angelicus Unleashed is another one inspired by a song. This time it was a version of Kashmir by Tracy G (link on the music page) and in particular the lines “I am a traveller of both time and space, to be where I have been” and “Let me take you there. Let me take you there.”
I read a story once that was set in the city of Samarkand (a real place incidentally) and thought the name just sounded so romantic, so I decided to combine the two, the lyrics and the city, to come up with this story. Again, if you’re interested, you can find the lyrics here
Angelicus Reflected came from watching horror movies, where the reflections in a mirror are different from the world the character is standing in, coupled with my love of masks. I yearn to go to one of those old fashioned masked balls where people wore the most gorgeous costumes and beautiful masks, so this story is really a dream of mine – something I’d love to do in real life!
I guess the other stories mostly speak for themselves as to where they come from (in fact they’re all of them whispered in my ear by my Muse! As most writers will tell you, it’s like these ideas are spoken softly in ones ear and you better write them down quickly else they vanish like an evanescent mist!), but if there’s something in particular you’d like to know that I haven’t covered here, then just ask!
